~Chapter 2 : Heart That Walked on Unknown Paths~

The morning sun filtered softly through the white curtains of Anvika's room, casting a warm glow on her peaceful face. The alarm buzzed softly and with a sleepy groan, she peeked from under her blanket.

"Ugh... why do mornings even exist?" she mumbled, pulling the covers tighter.

After a few more lazy minutes, she finally dragged herself out of bed, stretched like a sleepy cat and shuffled to the window. Pulling the curtains apart, she smiled at the clear sky.

"New day, new adventures," she whispered, brushing her soft curls away from her face.

She plugged in her earbuds, played her favorite playlist and danced her way to the wardrobe, picking out a peach kurti and light denim. Humming, she tied her hair into a messy ponytail and grabbed her journal to scribble a quick morning thought:

"Smile today, worry tomorrow."

After freshening up, she walked quietly to the small temple corner in their home. The gentle fragrance of incense filled the air as she folded her hands and bowed her head before Shivji's idol.

"Bas aaj ka din shant aur achha ho, aur sab khush rahein," she prayed softly, ringing the little temple bell with a peaceful smile.

Feeling lighter, she walked to the dining table, where the cheerful chaos had already begun.

Downstairs, the aroma of fresh toast and coffee filled the Malhotra home. At the breakfast table, Aryaan was already seated, flipping through the newspaper but clearly not reading it.

Shreya who was busy pouring juice called out, "Anvi beta, jaldi aao warna sab thanda ho jayega."

"Good morning, Mama, Papa!" She smiled.

Good morning beta! They replied.

"Good morning, lazy queen," Aryaan teased as she entered, pretending to bow dramatically, "Finally gracing us with your presence."

"Good morning, Mr. Too-Much-Energy-Too-Early," she shot back, plopping down on the chair, sitting down and taking a sip of juice. "Kya baat hai, sab bade calm lag rahe ho aaj."

Aryaan gave her a playful smile, "Bas, kabhi toh shaant subah ho jaye."

Shreya smiled fondly, setting a bowl of fruits in front of her. "Eat properly, Anvi. Don't survive on tea and chocolate."

Rajeev chuckled, folding his newspaper, "The Raichands are good people though. I'm glad you kids are getting along."

"Hmm... bilkul. Rhea toh itni friendly hai. Aur unke parents bhi bade humble lage mujhe," Shreya added warmly.

Aryaan nodded, taking a bite of toast, "Aur Rudraansh Raichand... I've heard a lot about him. He's very focused in his work. Smart hai, sorted hai... family ke business ko bohot ache se handle karta hai."

Hearing his name, Anvika froze mid-bite. Her hand paused halfway to her mouth. She muttered under her breath, "Huh... nice? Hmph... Rude arrogant and broody kahin ke."

Aryaan glanced at her, amused. "Kuch kaha ?"

She quickly shook her head, pretending innocence, "Kuch bhi toh nahi, Bhai."

Shreya gave her a knowing look but smiled, "Chalo chhodo, breakfast finish karo. Aaj tumhare projects bhi hain na college mein?"

"Haan! Mama, sab ready hai," she replied, trying to change the topic.

Then suddenly, she remembered something. She brightened suddenly, "By the way, Bhai, I was thinking..."she smiled sweetly and said, "Bhai... I want something."

He raised an eyebrow, already smirking, "Yeh morning me kya demand list lekar aayi ho, princess?"

She leaned on his shoulder playfully, "Bas ek chhoti si cheez... Just a diamond bracelet. I saw it in a jewellery store. Pretty please?"

Shreya pouring her tea, turned sharply, "Diamond bracelet? Again? You lost the last one Aryaan bought for you two months ago!"

She said dramatically, "That was an accident, Mumma! And anyway, diamonds deserve to be free... not locked in drawers."

But before she could pout, Aryaan spoke, grinning, "Done. You'll get it tomorrow. It's okay, Maa. I'll buy her a new one."

Anvika gasped happily, "Really, Bhai?! You're the best!" She clapped her hands and hugged his arm.

Shreya sighed, "Aryaan, stop spoiling her."

But he smiled warmly, ruffling Anvika's hair. "Maa, she's my only sister, my little sweetheart. I prayed for years to have her.

His eyes twinkling, "When she was born, it was like my world completed. Toh thodi si khushi de di toh kya bura? It's my duty to fulfil her wishes."

Anvika flipped her hair proudly, grinning at Shreya, "See? I'm Aryaan Malhotra's one and only sweetheart sister. I deserve it."

Her smile brightened, "He loves me too much. Dekha Maama, kya karoon... itni pyaari jo hoon main. Kya karein, perfect sisters deserve perfect brothers."

Shreya rolled her eyes but couldn't hide her smile, "Haan haan, sabke liye sirf ek hi princess bani ho tum."

Rajeev laughed, "Well, isn't it a father's job to spoil his princess too?"

He chuckled, "And fathers who support their daughters. Aur hum sab ko pata hai ki tum dono ke bina ghar kitna suna lagta."

Shreya shook her head in mock defeat, "Ap sab milkar ise bigaad rahe ho."

Aryaan winked, "Haan Maa, bigaad raha hoon. Kya karun, she's Aryaan Malhotra's sister. Bigaadne ka haq sirf mujhe hai."

She leaned towards her mother with a playful smile, "See, Mumma? Papa bhi meri side pe hai. Maama, ab toh aap bhi haar maan lo. I won."

The whole family laughed, the warmth of their bond filling the morning air with joy.

Shreya smiled lovingly, looking at both of them, "Bas hamesha aise hi khush rehna."

Moments later, Aryaan checked his watch. "Okay, princess, your chariot awaits outside. Let's go, I'll drop you to college."

"And what about you?" Rajeev asked.

"Work waits, Papa. But first, I'll make sure this little storm reaches safely," he grinned.

Shreya shook her head again but smiled, watching them leave. "Khush rehna bas dono."

Anvika picked up her bag and playfully saluted, "Chalo, chalo mere driver sahab."

The house echoed with their laughter and warmth as they left for the day, sunshine filtering softly through the windows.

The door shut behind them, leaving the house filled with laughter echoes.

Later that morning, college was buzzing with its usual energy-exactly the kind of lively chaos Anvika loved. Between boring lectures and piles of assignments, the canteen became their little escape zone.

Anvika and Rhea sat by the corner table, sharing fries and stealing sips from each other's cold coffee.

Rhea poked Anvika's arm, "Waise, madam... aaj bada fancy kurta pehna hai. What's the occasion? Trying to impress someone special?"

She rolled her eyes, "Ha-ha, very funny. It's called having a sense of fashion. You should try it sometime."

Rhea clutched her chest dramatically,"Ouch, my fashion sense has been insulted. My heart is shattered, Miss Malhotra."

Anvika giggled, "Stop pretending to be heartbroken. Weren't you the one telling me yesterday that Arjun from the canteen smiled at you?"

Rhea turned red, "Shut up! That was just... a polite smile. And I'm not interested."

"Polite smile?" She smirked."Oh really? Suddenly he's being all polite, huh?"

Rhea threw a fry at her, "Everything sounds sarcastic when you say it! Now stop and help me with this assignment or we'll end up panicking last minute again."

She groaned, "Ugh, don't remind me. My brain cells have already gone into retirement."

Rhea laughed, resting her chin on her palm, "Our future is definitely bright... but also fully chaotic."

Anvika smiled, "But life would be boring without a little chaos."

Their laughter echoed around the table, mixing with the noisy chatter of other students, as the day carried on in its crazy, carefree rhythm.

After classes ended, Anvika and Rhea waited near the college gates, scrolling through her phone. The sun was mellow and a light breeze played with the loose strands of her hair.

She dialed the driver. No answer.

"Great. Car's late again," she muttered, stuffing the phone into her bag.

As rhea was busy on a call, so she decided to walk a little and grab some air. She walked toward the street lined with tea stalls and small shops.

Nearby, laughter echoed-small children in dusty clothes sat in a corner, making paper planes from scrap paper. Despite their worn-out clothes, their smiles shone bright.

Moved by the sight, she approached them, kneeling to their level. She dug through her bag, pulling out a few chocolates and handed them money she always carried for such moments.Laughter bloomed.

"Here, take this and share it with everyone. And study well, okay?" she smiled warmly.

The kids cheered softly, eyes sparkling with joy. Just then, a tiny boy with messy hair tugged at her kurti, "Didi... is there something for me too?"

She checked her purse-empty. Her smile faded slightly, "Oh no, I just gave everything away..." she said softly, feeling a little helpless.

Suddenly, a crisp ₹100 note floated down beside her hand. She blinked in surprise, looking up.

There he was.

Rudraansh Raichand.

Dressed sharply in a charcoal-grey suit, sleeves rolled slightly, one hand casually in his pocket, yet completely composed. His black eyes unreadable but somehow aware. He stood just a few steps away.

Anvika froze, startled by his sudden presence. She hadn't noticed him approaching.

He had just wrapped up a quick meeting at a nearby site visit for his company's new college sponsorship project. On his way to pick up Rhea, her college having just ended, he had spotted Anvika with the children.

She gathered her words, feeling oddly flustered, "Thank you," she said, softly but clearly.

He gave a small, almost dismissive nod, his gaze lingering on her for a heartbeat longer than necessary, as if trying to figure her out but choosing not to speak.

Before either could say anything else, Rhea came jogging down the college steps, calling out breathlessly, "Anvika! What are you doing here? Tumhari car nahi ayi ?

She turned, relieved by the interruption, "Yeah... lagta hai late ho gayi."

"Need a lift? "Rhea asked .

"I-uh... yeah, actually." She hesitated.

"Bhai is here to pick me up. Come with us, na". Rhea smiled warmly.

She hesitated, glancing at Rudraansh. He didn't say a word. His silence somehow spoke louder than anything else. The weight of his unreadable gaze lingered.

Finally, she exhaled lightly and nodded, "Okay... thanks."

She slid into the backseat of Rudraansh's sleek black car. The air was quiet but charged.

As he started the car, Rhea grinned, "Bhai, you remember Anvika na? My best friend."

"I remember," he said flatly, adjusting the rear-view mirror without meeting Anvika's eyes.

The drive began in silence but the unspoken tension was hard to ignore.

The car cruised smoothly down the quiet roads, the afternoon sun casting a warm glow through the windows. Rudraansh drove in calm silence, his expression unreadable, while the other two filled the quiet with chatter.

Rhea turned in her seat, stretching lazily, "Gosh, today's lectures were so boring. I swear, listening to Professor Sharma is the fastest way to fall asleep. I almost died of boredom."

Anvika chuckled, "You say that after every class, drama company."

She grinned, ready to joke back but suddenly paused, as a thought struck her.

She frowned slightly, thinking aloud, "Wait... yesterday at the college gate... you and bhai were arguing, right? But you don't even know each other... how do you guys even know one another?"

The car fell silent for a second. Rudraansh glanced at the rear-view mirror, his gaze meeting Anvika's eyes briefly, calm yet sharp.

Then, with a cool, flat tone, he spoke, "Some people walk on the road like it's their personal driveway... and forget others might be using it too."

Anvika raised a brow, giving a calm but pointed reply, "And some people stand in the middle of the road like it's their private helipad."

Rhea blinked, confused, looking back and forth between them, "Helipad? What are you two even talking about?"

A few beats of silence passed. Then suddenly, realization struck her and her mouth fell open in shock.

"Ohhhhhh! Anvi, you said yesterday that you accidentally pushed someone into the mud... that was you, bhai?!"

She burst out laughing, holding her stomach, "Oh my God, this is epic! You pushed my brother into the mud?"

Anvika tried to keep a straight face but a smile slipped through, "Well, technically... I didn't push him. It was an accident."

He shook his head, his lips curving in a faint smirk. "Accident? Your accidents feel very... deliberate."

Rhea was still laughing, "Seriously? You two have been fighting from day one."

Anvika crossed her arms with a slight grin, "I was just walking normally. Why is everyone blaming me?"

He glanced sideways, his voice calm, "Walking normally? You were chasing a stray dog across the gate. I couldn't tell if it was morning jog time or a wildlife rescue mission."

Rhea wiped a tear of laughter from her eye, "You both are insane. Please stop before I die laughing."

Gradually, the car settled into a lighter silence after all the laughter.

A few minutes later, Rhea lit up again, remembering something.

"By the way, Anvi-dinner's confirmed at our place tomorrow. Dad said to invite your whole family. "

She got exited, her eyes shining, "And guess what? Vihaan is coming back tomorrow from his study tour!"

Anvika's face brightened, "Oh finally! I haven't seen him in so long... it'll be fun catching up."

Rhea smiled, "Yeah! And Isha will be there too-you remember her, right? Dad's friend's daughter? You met her at the function."

Anvika nodded, "Of course, I remember. She's so kind and sweet. I'll definitely come now. We're going to make this dinner awesome."

Rhea laughed, clapping her hands, "Yes! Our boring Raichand dinners are finally going to be fun."

But Anvika muttered softly under her breath, almost like talking to herself, "Fun... huh? With Mr. Broody around, what fun is going to happen..."

She thought no one heard her but suddenly caught Rudraansh's sharp gaze in the rear-view mirror. His eyes met hers, steady and unreadable.

Her throat went dry for a second, "Did he just hear that?" she thought, quickly looking away, pretending to fix her bag.

The rest of the drive passed in soft music and Rhea's cheerful humming but that moment lingered silently between the two of them.

Finally, the car pulled up outside Anvika's house. He stopped the car without a word.

Rhea turned with a wide smile, "Bye Anvi! See you tomorrow sharp at 7, no excuses!"

She smiled as she opened the door, "Got it. Bye, Rhea."

Then, stealing a final glance at Rudraansh, she softly added, "Thanks for the lift."

He gave a small nod, calm and unreadable but his eyes lingered on her for a moment.

As she walked toward her gate, she felt his gaze follow her briefly.

And as she disappeared inside, Rudraansh started the engine again-his face calm but his mind... anything but quiet.

Next Evening, The soft golden glow of the setting sun spilled through the Malhotra house as Anvika stood by her dressing table, carefully adjusting her earrings.

Her pistachio-colored anarkali fell around her in gentle folds-simple, elegant and graceful. Loose curls framed her face, falling softly onto her shoulders.

As she applied a touch of perfume behind her ears, her mind, despite all efforts, wandered back to him.

Why is he like that? she thought, frowning slightly at her reflection. So cold... so distant... Can't he just speak normally like everyone else?

She shook her head, brushing the thought away, "Ugh, Anvi, stop thinking about him," she muttered under her breath, forcing a smile at herself in the mirror.

The clock ticked softly as Aryaan and Rajeev waited patiently in the living room. Aryaan glanced at his watch for the third time and sighed dramatically.

He called out, "Princess! Jaldi aao! People age waiting."

"Seriously? How long does it take to wear a dress and earrings? Papa, I feel like we're just decoration pieces in this house."

Rajeev, sipping coffee on the couch, smiled, "Let her take her time. Beta patience is the first thing you learn when you have a daughter or a sister. Getting ready is no small deal."

Just then, Shreya walked in, adjusting her elegant maroon saree and caught Aryaan's complaints.

She gave him a playful glare, "Oh wow, is this what I'm hearing? You two are just sitting here and complaining? Do you really think getting ready is only about putting on lipstick?"

Aryaan rolled his eyes with a grin, "Yes, Mom. What else? You ladies just open the wardrobe and pick one outfit, right?"

Shreya raised an eyebrow, amused, "Oh really? Try selecting a saree, choosing the right bangles, fixing your hairstyle... then you'll know."

She crossed her arms and smirked, " You will get to know... when your wife will teach you, how to wait without complaining."

He rolled his eyes, " Aisa kuch ni hoga, Maa."

Rajeev chuckled softly, "You two keep talking like this and we'll never reach dinner."

Before anyone could reply, light footsteps echoed down the staircase. They all turned and there she was, Anvika finally appeared, dressed in a soft pistachio outfit, delicate jewelry and soft curls framing her face, a soft blush on her cheeks. She paused at the last step, adjusting her dupatta. She smiled sweetly, proud of her look.

Aryaan clapped dramatically, "Ah, look who finally graced us with her royal presence!"

She flipped her hair playfully, "Good things take time, dear brother. Learn some patience."

Shreya smiled warmly, "My princess always looks beautiful. May no evil eye touch you."

Rajeev stood up, offering his arm to Anvika, "Shall we go, my queens?"

Aryaan stopped, "Wait there is a surprise for you ,my little sister," he smirked, pulling out a small, beautifully wrapped box from his blazer.

"What's this?" She blinked in surprise.

"Open it, madam," he said, a mischievous sparkle in his eyes.

Curious, she carefully untied the ribbon and opened the box. Inside, nestled on soft velvet, was a stunning diamond bracelet-delicate, elegant and shimmering softly under the lights.

Her breath caught, "Bhai... this... it's beautiful..."

"Do you like it?" He asked softly, his smile gentle and affectionate.

Without thinking twice, she hugged him tightly, "I love it. Thank you, bhai! You're the best!

He chuckled, caressing her hair then gently pulling away from the hug, " If I don't get you what makes you happy, then who will?"

Then, carefully taking the bracelet out of the box, he clasped it onto her wrist. He stepped back and smiled, "Perfect. Now the look is complete."

She admired the bracelet on her wrist, its diamonds sparkling softly. She looked up at Aryaan, her voice tender, "Thank you, bhai... I'll cherish this always."

He playfully tapped her forehead, "Just keep smiling always."

Their parents also smiled seeing their children happy .

Aryaan said with a soft smile, "Come on now, let's go."

Laughing softly, they all stepped out of the house. The evening air was cool and fresh as they slid into their sleek car, ready for a beautiful evening ahead.

The car turned onto the wide driveway of the Raichand mansion. The grand entrance was alive with warm lights and the gentle hum of conversations.

As they stepped out, the evening stretched before them-full of family, laughter and perhaps a few unexpected sparks.

The Raichand mansion stood illuminated like a palace, glowing in soft golden light. The grand entrance doors opened-and there stood Rhea, radiant in a soft pink chiffon dress, hair cascading down her shoulders, excitement in her eyes.

She beamed, "Aunty! Uncle! You finally made it!"

She hugged Shreya and Rajeev warmly, then turned to Anvika and squealed, "You look like a fairy today!"

Anvika laughed, hugging her back, "And you look like a Bollywood heroine."

Aryaan cleared his throat behind them. "Ahem. I'm also here, in case you missed me."

She turned with a mock-smile, "Oh... you came? Wow. What a surprise."

He rolled his eyes, "You're hopeless."

She shot back, "And you are brainless!"

Just then, Meera and Viren stepped out to greet them. Vireen wore a beige suit with a calm smile, while Meera, elegant in a soft navy saree, greeted everyone with genuine warmth.

Anvika greeted both with a smile, "Hello aunty, Hello uncle,"

Meera replied, "Welcome beta, you are looking so lovely."

She smiled and complimented back, "But you are looking gorgeous Aunty."

"We're so happy to have you all here," she said, holding Shreya's hands. "You've made the evening brighter."

They all laughed softly and stepped inside, unaware of the black-eyed gaze watching from the far hallway.

Rudraansh noticed her the moment she walked in. Something about her presence always made time slow a little. His steps slowed. She looked radiant.

He paused mid-step, his hands slipping into his pockets, his sharp features softening almost imperceptibly.

"There she is again," he thought, watching her greet the others, her laughter filling the room like soft music.

Then, another voice joined them-casual, warm.

"Looks like I missed the grand welcome."

Vihaan walked in, his arms open, sleeves rolled up enough exposing his veiny arms, dressed in a casual white shirt and jeans with a cheeky grin on his face. His wavy hair falling over his forehead.

"Anvika!" he said, walking up to her. "Still causing chaos or have you calmed down?"

She laughed, "Calmed down? Never. You're back early!"

"Tour got wrapped up a day ahead. Plus, Rhea's constant 'come-back-fast' messages worked."

They both laughed as they chatted easily-old friends slipping back into comfort.

Across the hall, Rudraansh emerged from a different corridor. He slowed his steps when he saw her, noticing the ease on her face as she laughed with Vihaan.

He didn't speak. He didn't even smile. He just watched for a moment, something unreadable in his eyes.

Aryaan, noticing him, walked over with a friendly tone, "Hey, Rudraansh."

Rudraansh extended a polite handshake, Hyy! Good to see you." Aryaan smiled, "Same here."

He nodded respectfully toward Rajeev but didn't say much else. Then he walked past them silently, choosing a seat on the side, distant but observant.

The drawing room was lively with conversation-business partners, family friends, laughter and compliments floating in the air.

The guests were soon seated in the spacious lounge. Laughter, light music and clinking glasses filled the space. Platters of snacks moved around while kids played near the far side.

Anvika, Rhea and Vihaan sat slightly away from the older guests, deep in their own conversations. Vihaan animatedly talked about his trip-his encounters with quirky professors and missing decent food.

"Seriously," Vihaan said, "If I had to eat one more boiled vegetable... I would've turned vegetarian forever."

Rhea laughed, "You already are halfway there."

Vihaan shrugged, "Let me live."

Suddenly, the main doors opened again-and everyone turned.

Isha entered with her family, wearing an elegant white palazzo suit with pearl detailing. Her soft curls were pinned neatly and silver jhumkas swayed gently as she walked.

For a second, the entire room quieted just a little. She greeted the Raichands and the Malhotras with a warm smile.

Anvika's face lit up, "Isha! Finally!"

They hugged tightly. Rhea joined in, throwing her arms around them both. "My two favorite girls in one frame. The night is officially saved."

But Vihaan... froze.

From the moment she walked in, he hadn't blinked. His heart raced. His juice remained forgotten on the side table. Every movement she made, every little smile, seemed to pull him in like gravity.

As Isha turned toward him, her smile gentle, she said, "Hi, Vihaan."

He opened his mouth to speak... and nothing came out.

Then, stammering slightly, he managed, "H-hello... I mean, hi."

Isha gave him a small amused smile and walked ahead to sit beside the girls.

He was still standing.

Rhea smirked and whispered to Anvika, "Vihaan just short-circuited."

Anvika giggled, "Love at second sight?"

He finally sat back down, still watching Isha as if time had slowed again, his heart not quite ready for how real this moment suddenly felt.

Upstairs, the air was filled with laughter and warmth. Rhea's cozy room had soft fairy lights draped across the walls and shelves stacked with perfumes, books and trinkets.

She opened her wardrobe dramatically, "Okay girls, help me decide-pink or maroon for tomorrow's college ?"

Isha giggled, sitting cross-legged on the bed, "You'll wear both somehow. Pink scarf, maroon dress."

Anvika laughed, running her fingers through a stack of hairbands, "I swear, your wardrobe has more options than a shopping mall."

Rhea placed a hand on her hip. "Excuse me, fashion is a lifestyle."

They were still mid-laugh when Vihaan knocked lightly and peeked in, "Ladies, dinner's ready. If you don't come down soon, bhai will eat everything out of irritation."

Rhea rolled her eyes, "Tell him to wait. Royalty takes time."

Isha smiled, getting up, "Come, Anvika?"

Anvika fixed the pleats of her dupatta and said, "You both go. I'll be right behind. Just fixing this."

"Okay, don't get lost in this mansion," Rhea joked, grabbing Isha's hand and walking out.

As the voices faded down the hallway, she adjusted her dress in front of the mirror. Just as she turned to leave, her gaze accidentally fell upon a door at the far end of the corridor, its frame slightly open, inviting, almost calling her.

A strange feeling crept into her chest.

Why does this feel... familiar?

She hesitated at the threshold, biting her lip, her curiosity winning over reason.

She pushed the door open gently. The room was quiet, almost still-lit softly by the evening glow filtering through the large window. Minimalist yet warm.

Books neatly stacked on shelves. A guitar case leaned in one corner. On the desk, scattered papers and a leather-bound journal. And on the wall... his photograph. A big one.

Her eyes rested on it for a moment, reading something distant in his expression.

So this is your world, Mr. Broody... calm outside, chaos inside?

Drawn by the breeze, she walked to the tall window. She pushed it open, letting in the cool air. But suddenly-

Crash!

A photo frame on the window ledge toppled and hit the floor, the glass shattering with a sharp crack.

She gasped, heart pounding.

"Shoot... what did I just do?" she whispered to herself, panicking.

Footsteps approached from outside.

Oh no.

Frozen, she frantically looked for a place to hide. Without thinking twice, she slipped behind the long curtain near the window, holding her breath, palms over her face.

The door opened then clicked shut softly behind Rudraansh as he stepped in, phone in hand, still mid-conversation. But his steps slowed the moment his eyes fell on the broken frame on the floor. He paused. His sharp eyes scanning the room. He took slow steps forward. He bent down, picked up the broken frame from the floor, turning it in his hands.

The room was silent... too silent.

And then, his sharp gaze noticed something.

The faint outline of feet... peeking from under the curtain.

He exhaled slowly, almost amused, "Well, well... breaking things in other people's rooms? Is that your new hobby?"

His voice was cool, tinged with quiet sarcasm.

Behind the curtain, she winced, "Oh God... busted.

In one quick motion, he slid the curtain aside.

There she stood, caught red-handed-covering her face with both hands like a guilty child.

He blinked, utterly baffled, "Seriously?"

She slowly lowered her hands, her wide eyes meeting his sharp black ones.

Her voice barely a whisper, "I... um... this isn't what it looks like..."

He crossed his arms, "Really? Then what is it exactly? A midnight treasure hunt?"

Gathering whatever courage she could find, she slowly stepped out, biting her lip.

"I... I didn't mean to break it. It just... happened. I was-"

He cut her off, raising a brow, "Let me guess... you accidentally walked into my room? Or were you playing detective?"

She crossed her arms, still flustered, "I wasn't playing anything. I... I was just... passing by."

"Passing by?" He took a slow step toward her, voice low and teasing, "People usually pass by a corridor. Not inside someone's personal space."

She stepped back instinctively, swallowing nervously, "Look, I didn't know it was your room. I just... saw the door open... and..."

"And what? Thought you'd peek in and start redecorating?" he interrupted smoothly, tilting his head.

She threw him a glare, cheeks flushed, "I wasn't redecorating, okay? I just-"

He took another slow step forward, his tone softer but no less sharp, "So, curiosity killed the cat, huh?"

She stepped back again, hands slightly raised, "Fine! I was curious, happy? But I wasn't trying to-"

But before she could finish, her heel caught the edge of the rug.

Her eyes widened.

"Uh-oh-"

And in the next second, she stumbled backward, arms flailing slightly-right through the open window behind her.

"Wait-!" Rudraansh took a step forward but it was too late.

SPLASH.

She fell straight into the swimming pool below, the water erupting in ripples.

For a moment, he stood there, frame in hand, utterly dumbfounded.

As she hit the cold water, panic gripped her chest. She thrashed helplessly, gasping.

Her voice stuck in her throat, fear blinding her senses.

Downstairs, Aryaan was stepping outside the house, phone pressed to his ear, laughing lightly at something. But the laugh died in his throat when he caught sight of the rippling pool... and the familiar pistachio-colored outfit sinking below the surface.

His world froze.

"ANVI...!!" His voice tore through the air, panic-stricken.

Without a second thought, phone forgotten, he sprinted toward the pool and dove in fully clothed, slicing through the water.

Within moments, he reached her, wrapping his arms securely around her flailing frame.

"Relax... I've got you... just hold on," he whispered urgently.

He pulled her to the surface, her coughing breaking the still air. Slowly, he brought her to the edge and helped her out.

Shivering, drenched and shaken, she sat on the edge, hugging herself, breath coming in sharp gasps. Her wide, terrified eyes met Aryaan's as he knelt beside her.

"Princess... hey... look at me. Are you okay?" His voice was low but trembling with worry.

She tried to nod but only tears came, "I... I'm okay, Bhai... I'm okay..." she whispered, voice cracking.

He hugged her tightly, kissing her wet hair. "Pagal ho gayi ho kya? What were you even doing near the pool?!"

Up above, Rudraansh stood at his window, frozen in place. His phone slipped from his fingers onto the floor, forgotten.

For a long second, his eyes locked on hers-cold, shivering, terrified.

Something twisted sharply in his chest.

But he didn't move. He just watched.

Moments Later, Inside the Mansion, Anvika, now dressed in Rhea's comfortable cord-set, sat on the couch, drying her hair with a towel. Her cheeks were pale, her heart still racing.

Rhea sat beside her, rubbing her back, "You scared us to death, idiot. What were you even doing near the pool?"

Shreya rushed to her daughter, caressing her face, "Beta, are you sure you're okay? You're burning up!"

Viren looked concerned, "Should we call the family doctor? Just to be safe."

Meera nodded gently, "Yes, let's not take a chance."

But Anvika quickly shook her head, forcing a smile, "No, no aunty, uncle... please, I'm fine now. Really. I just slipped... it's nothing serious."

Aryaan wasn't convinced. He sat on the coffee table in front of her, brows knitted in worry.

"Nothing serious? You could've drowned, Anvi. What if I wasn't there?"

He cupped her face gently, "You know you can't swim, right? What were you doing near the pool?"

She bit her lip, glancing briefly toward the stairs where Rudraansh now stood quietly, hands in his pockets, face unreadable but his eyes... watching her.

She looked away quickly and muttered, "I told you Bhai... my foot slipped."

He sighed, shaking his head in frustration, "Slipped... seriously? Do you think this is a joke? I swear, sometimes I don't know what to do with you. Don't ever scare me like that again."

He pulled her into a hug again, "I've only got one sister. Don't try to give me a heart attack."

She smiled faintly, comforted by his warmth but her heart stung.

Bhai asked if I was okay... cared for me like always.

But him?

Her eyes flicked back to Rudraansh.

He didn't ask a single thing. Not a single word. He just... watched. Cold. Silent. Like he didn't care at all.

What kind of person sees someone fall and does nothing?

How arrogant. How heartless.

But little did she know... His fingers were clenched tightly in his pockets, his jaw tense, hiding the chaos swirling inside him.

She didn't know how to swim... What if ..... and still, she smiled like she was fine. Why do you hide your fear, stupid girl?

Dinner was eventually served. The room slowly filled with warm chatter, clinking cutlery, and light-hearted jokes.

The elders talked business and charity events. Isha and Rhea laughed over a silly viral video. Vihaan stole glances at Isha from across the table.

But between all this, there was a quiet tension stretching across the long table.

Rudraansh sat on one end, silently eating, his gaze occasionally flickering toward the girl at the other end of the table-quiet now, cheeks still flushed from the earlier chaos.

And Anvika... every now and then, her eyes lifted, meeting his.

Neither smiled.

Neither spoke.

But both wondered.

Her thought, Did he even care? Or was I just another stranger to him?

His thought, Why can't I stop looking at her?

A silence louder than words settled between them.

After dinner, as the elders got busy discussing business and life updates in the drawing room, the younger crowd gathered in the cozy lounge. The warm glow of floor lamps, soft instrumental music and scattered cushions made the space inviting. Bowls of chips, candies and juice sat on the coffee table.

Anvika sat curled up on the couch, still a little shaken but trying to blend back into the fun.

Rhea stretched beside her, pulling a throw blanket over them.

"Finally... some peace after all the drama," she said, nudging Anvika playfully. "Spider-Woman, you okay now?"

Vihaan, sitting on the single armchair, chuckled, "Yeah, seriously Anvika.... Who falls into a pool like that? Were you auditioning for a superhero movie?"

Isha giggled, adjusting her silver jhumkas, "Or maybe she thought she was doing a stunt scene-slow motion fall and splash effect included."

Anvika gave them a mock glare but smiled faintly, "Haan haan, very funny. Let's all laugh at the girl who nearly drowned."

Vihaan leaned forward, grinning, "But on a serious note... glad you're okay. Don't scare us like that again."

Isha smiled warmly, reaching for her hand, "Yeah. You gave us all a mini heart attack. But next time, take care hmm?"

Everyone laughed softly, and Anvika finally let herself relax a little, warmth blooming in her heart.

Just then, she noticed Vihaan's eyes drifting again toward Isha, who was busy fixing her bracelet. She smirked and elbowed him, "That's a pretty intense stare."

He blinked, startled, "W-What? I wasn't... I mean... just... looking around."

She narrowed her eyes teasingly, "Looking around? Bro, you've been looking at one spot since the last fifteen minutes. And that spot's name is Isha."

He sighed dramatically, running a hand through his hair, "I can't help it, okay? She's beautiful, smart... and I'm just... me. Don't know she even knows my existence?"

She smiled softer this time, "Tum bhi smart ho, bas thoda shy ho."

Across the room, Isha caught them whispering and tilted her head, "What's going on?"

Anvika grinned, seizing the moment, "Nothing! Just asking if you want some more chips, Isha?"

She smiled brushing a strand of hair behind her ear, "No thanks, Anvika. But Vihaan, you haven't eaten much. Don't you like these?"

He nearly choked on his juice, "Uhh... I do... just... not hungry right now."

Anvika whispered, "See? She knows you exist."

His ears turned red, "I really like her," he murmured shyly.

"You should tell her someday," she whispered.

"But what if she... you know, says no?" he asked nervously.

She gave him a reassuring smile, "But what if she says yes?"

"How do I even talk to her without turning into a statue?" His browrs furrowed,

As the teasing settled down, Isha smiled softly and said, "By the way... I didn't tell you all... I got admitted to your college. Papa wanted me to join your College instead of studying abroad."

Rhea gasped excitedly clapping her hands, "Oh my God, seriously? That's awesome, Isha! Finally, we'll have some girl gang time in college too!"

Anvika grinned wide, "Wow, that's great! Now college will be so much more fun."

Vihaan almost dropped his glass, staring at Isha with wide eyes, "You... you're joining our college?" he stammered.

She smiled at him kindly unaware of his racing heart, "Yeah, Vihaan. You'll have to help me catch up with the notes, okay?"

His ears turned red. He just nodded quickly, too stunned to speak.

Anvika leaned toward him and whispered, teasingly, "Hey hero, now you've got to step up your game. You'll get to meet her at college every day."

He blushed harder, running a hand through his hair. "Stop it, Anvika..."

She winked, "Don't worry. I'm your partner-in-crime. Tumhara kaam easy kar dungi."

Rhea laughed at their whispering, clueless but happy, "Kya secret chal raha hai wahan?"

"Nothing!" They said in unison, making everyone laugh.

Anvika winked, "Mujhpe chhodo. Kal tak kuch spark toh kar hi dungi."

"Don't fear when I'm here," she added playfully, "Tomorrow, I'll cook up a plan."

Vihaan laughed nervously, "Just don't make it super awkward, please."

She grinned, "Me? Awkward? Never."

"You're crazy," he shook his head.

She laughed softly, "Exactly the kind of crazy that makes love stories happen."

Rhea watched them, giggling, "Yeh dono... kabhi sudhrenge nahi."

After sometime As Anvika stood up to leave, wrapping her shawl tighter around herself, her eyes found his across the room.

For a second, the world muted. No teasing, no chatter. Just them.

Neither smiled.

Neither spoke.

But something lingered.

The night faded gently, leaving behind soft laughter and the warmth of goodbyes. In the grand hallway, Vihaan and Isha exchanged smiles and cheerful farewells, " See you tomarrow, Vihaan!"

He smiled, " Ofcourse! Good night Isha!"

She said softly with a smile, "Good night!"

Rhea hugged Isha and Anvika tightly and Aryaan shook hands with Viren, Rudraansh and others.

Unnoticed by most, Rudraansh stood leaning casually against the staircase railing, observing the easy laughter filling the room.

His gaze rested quietly on Anvika-laughing, teasing, a little pale but still managing to light up the space around her.

He exhaled softly, his thoughts tangled.

This girl... falls into my room, falls into the pool and still laughs like nothing happened.

For a fleeting second, her eyes met his. No words. Just a quiet glance. And then, she turned away, her laughter fading down the steps as she left.

He exhaled softly, something stirring within him that he couldn't quite place.

Later, in the silence of his room, he closed the door behind him. The night felt heavier somehow. He walked toward his desk, opened the side drawer and carefully took out a small, worn-out locket.

Opening it gently, his eyes softened as they fell on a faded photograph tucked inside-a girl with a radiant smile, on swing.

"Aarohi..." his voice cracked slightly, barely a whisper. "How long has it been? Years... and yet it still hurts like yesterday."

He sat down at the edge of his bed, his fingers brushing over the picture, "I promised I'd protect you... but I failed."

A faint tear escaped the corner of his eye, "I blamed myself for losing you... and maybe I always will."

Clutching the locket close to his chest, he closed his eyes, breathing deeply as if trying to hold on to a memory slipping away. After a moment, he carefully placed the locket back in its place and closed the drawer, locking away the piece of his broken heart once more.

But tonight... something felt different.

His gaze drifted across the room.

The curtains swayed gently in the night breeze where she had stood earlier. The open window let in soft moonlight, casting a peaceful glow over the space that once felt cold and empty.

He stared at the spot where she had hidden behind the curtain... where she had smiled awkwardly, stumbled and fallen into his world.

"Why does this room feel so... different tonight?" he whispered to himself, frowning.

"The breeze... the silence... the peace... it's not the same anymore."

His mind echoed with thoughts he couldn't shake off.

"Why does she keep appearing in front of me?"

"Why can't I stop thinking about her?"

"Who are you and why do you remind me of something I've lost... yet something I might find again?"

He leaned back, running a tired hand through his hair, the weight of emotions pressing down on him.

For the first time in years, Rudraansh Raichand-who had built walls taller than the world, felt a crack forming in his heart. And that scared him more than anything.

Anvika sat by her window, the night breeze brushing through her soft curls. She wore a cozy hoodie but her heart still raced with everything that had happened.

She rested her chin on her knees, staring out at the stars scattered across the dark sky.

"Why do his eyes feel... so familiar? Like there's a story hidden behind them..." she whispered to herself.

She thought of the moment he pulled the curtain aside, those sharp black eyes locking onto hers. Cold, unreadable... yet somehow, they stirred something within her.

"Why do I keep thinking about him? ... why are you always stuck in my head?"

Her thoughts wandered back to the fall... to the way he didn't reach out to save her.

"He could've stopped me from falling. He saw me... he was right there."

"But he didn't move... not even a little."

She sighed, a twinge of hurt crossing her heart, "Okay fine, we had a weird argument... maybe we don't get along. But still... he could've helped."

Frustrated, she shook her head and stood up, "Whatever. I don't care. He's rude and cold. Let him be."

But deep down, a small voice whispered, But do you really not care, Anvika?

She ignored it.

Her eyes lifted to the night sky once again, her thoughts quieter now but still restless.

Why is it that every time I meet him... I feel like... life's writing a story I don't understand yet?

She smiled faintly, brushing her hair behind her ear.

"Forget it. I've got better things to think about. I'm not letting Mr. Broody ruin my sleep."

And with that, she pulled her blanket over herself, trying to silence the questions that refused to leave her heart.

But somewhere, somehow... her heart already knew this was just the beginning.
